The Social Development department has been very busy in the past year. In addition to completing the first set of the Anishinabek Nation Child Welfare Law Development community consultation sessions, we have also completed a draft Child Welfare Law Strategic Plan and we will be rolling out this plan over the next year. We will be looking to engage a number of partners and stakeholders to get their views on what the Child Welfare Law should include. This includes getting the feedback of parents, community members, community frontline workers, leaders, young people and anyone else who would like to participate. We will be posting updates regularly to this website as well as the Anishinabek Nation ‘s Facebook Group. When the Social Development department is not providing a voice to the Anishinabek Nation on issues affecting our families and children at various meetings with Ontario and Federal governments or providing technical support to the Anishinabek Nation leadership, we have been providing technical assistance and capacity support to our First Nations across the Anishinabek Nation. We have provided Band Representative Training as well as the Rites of Passage Fireweed Project training to communities. We will continue to run the Rites of Passage training until July 16, 2010. Within the next year we hope to have a draft Anishinabek Nation Child Welfare Law that we can present to community members and the Chiefs in Assembly and move forward with its implementation. We also will continue to provide input into the Tripartite discussions. We will continue to advocate and provide policy analysis for First Nation Daycares, Child Care programming, and Social Assistance Programs, as well as manage and administer the Federal Family Violence Program and Federal Disability Funding to First Nations communities.
