National Claims Research Workshop The National Claims Research Workshop is an annual three-day event open to those who are employed by a First Nation Organization and working within the Indian and Northern Affairs Specific Claims System from across Canada as well as government representatives from the claims system. It is a national stage for the showcasing and discussion of specific claims in Canada and is host to approximately 200 guests and presenters. Presentation topics generally range from land surrenders, railway right-of-ways, and financial mismanagement claims to technical research and presentations on the claims system itself as it aims to provide practical information on issues of relevance to those working on First Nation claims. This year, the 18th annual workshop is being held at the Victoria Inn in Thunder Bay, Ontario from September 20th to the 22nd and is being hosted jointly by the Union of Ontario Indians and the Nishnawbe Aski Nation. It will not only showcase local specific claims, but will also feature local culture and cuisine at the banquet on the evening of the second day. To register, contact Joe Wheesk, Nishnawbe Aski Nation, by phone at (807) 623-8228 or by email at jwheesk@nan.on.ca.
