OUR VETERANS

For generations, Anishinaabe men and women have answered the call to serve with unwavering courage, strength, resilience, and determination. During the First and Second World Wars, many of our people volunteered to fight for a country which failed to even recognize them as equal rights-bearing people, rights and recognition afforded to other citizens.

Yet, guided by a deep sense of duty, service, and community, they stepped forward to defend values that transcended borders. Rooted in a long-standing warrior tradition, Anishinaabe soldiers brought exceptional skills, adaptability, endurance, and leadership to the battlefield.

Their bravery and tenacity earned the respect of their comrades and left an enduring legacy of sacrifice and honour. This page pays tribute to the Veterans from the 39 Anishinabek Nation member communities whose service, both overseas and at home, stands as a testament to the strength of our Nations and the enduring spirit of our people.
