The Journey Together – Early Years Commitment
- On May 30, 2016, the provincial government released the Journey Together: Ontario’s Commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, which sets out Ontario’s plan for responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action
- As part of the plan, the Ministry of Education has committed to invest up to $23.5M over the next two years for new and enhanced child and family programs on reserve, with up to $12M in ongoing annual operating funding beginning in 2018-19
- The Anishinabek Nation will be working with member communities over the course of the summer to identify early years needs and to develop proposals for provincially-funded child and family programs
- The Early Years Central Gathering will provide an opportunity for communities to learn more about the initiative from the Ministry of Education and to begin providing input on early years needs and priorities
- Consultants will be present to gather information on community needs, engage communities and to provide support to communities in developing proposals for future child and family programs
- Details of the Early Years commitment can be found in the Closing the Gaps sections of the following:
